Participate: FAQ

What happens if our group cannot host the 24 Hour Wake on the national date?
Feel free to choose any date or time that may be suitable for your group. Children’s AIDS Health Program has set a national date so that there would be an increase of AIDS awareness throughout Canada. Please let us know your event date, so we can assist in spreading the message.

How do I sign up to be a group leader?
Email us at wake@LetsStopAIDS.org or call us at 416-231-2333 (if outside Ontario, 1-866-530-AIDS) and let us know that you're interested!

Can I photocopy my donation sheet if I need more?
Yes, feel free to photocopy the Donation Form. A PDF file of the donation form is available on our website http://wake.LetsStopAIDS.org. White paper only, please.
What kind of activities can we host during the 24 Hour wake?
Have Fun! Be Creative! Make a banner and call the media! Paint 24 on your face! BUT… We have one major advice: Don’t tire yourself out too much though. Your group organizer will organize activities related to HIV and disease prevention. Your group could host rally races, video game competitions, watch movies (keep the lights on), or play sports!

Can I earn volunteer hours towards my community service?
Yes. Participants receive volunteer hours for community service during non-instructional hours. Participants receive 15 hours of community service. Group leaders receive 40 hours of community service. If you are on your own and need someone to confirm your hours, contact contact Sally Suen at ssuen@LetsStopAIDS.org.

How do I collect Donations?
Ask relatives, friends, teachers, co-workers, or your neighbours. Be Creative! Host local auctions, host a bake sale, or even take on a DARE (if you reach your target goal). Donations can be in either cash or cheque. Cheques should be made payable to Children’s AIDS Health Program. If your donor would prefer to use their credit card, they can do so online. Children’s AIDS Health Program is a registered Canadian Charitable Organization.

I cannot stay awake for 24 hours, can I still participate?
Definitely! Try your best. It shouldn’t be too hard, but it isn’t that easy, as well. If you’re with a group of friends or family members, you’re guaranteed to have a great time. If you truly cannot stay awake, or accidentally dose off… You tried your best, and believe it or not, you made a difference to the world.
